Every lock we touch in Ashburn gets handled by someone who lives here, works here, and answers to the same standard. Our crew isn’t a rotating cast of subcontractors. These are the same faces you’ll see on a rekey in Ashburn Farm, an access-control install at a One Loudoun office, or a 2 a.m. lockout off Waxpool Road. What ties us together isn’t a handbook. Daniel Novak, Owner
Daniel started this operation in 2002 after six years of watching customers get burned by bait-and-switch pricing in the locksmith trade. He built Novak Lock & Security on a single rule that still governs every dispatch: quote the full price before the truck rolls, and the technician cannot change it on the doorstep. Daniel holds factory authorization on Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy high-security cylinders (locks that cannot be picked or bumped by standard tools), and he still rides along on complex commercial master-key systems when the building manager wants the owner on-site. He’s the one who’ll tell you that a deadbolt installed backward in 2009 is still a deadbolt installed backward in 2009, and he’s got the photo record to prove it. Off the clock, he’s usually restoring a 1987 Chevy pickup that has spent more time on jack stands than the road.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with Novak since 2014, which means he’s personally installed or serviced roughly 12,000 of the 60,000+ locks in our record. He’s our go-to for high-security conversions in Ashburn’s older neighborhoods, where builders spec’d entry-grade Kwikset deadbolts in the 1990s and homeowners are finally upgrading. Marcus carries factory certification on Schlage Primus XP and Baldwin Estate series, and he’s the technician other crews call when a master-key system isn’t pinning correctly. His human detail: he keeps a handwritten log of every weird keyway he’s encountered, and he’s up to 147 distinct profiles. His worst find was a knockoff cylinder in an Ashburn Village townhome that had been rekeyed four times by four different companies, none of whom noticed it wasn’t a standard Schlage SC1.
Jennifer K., Senior Installer, Access Control
Jennifer joined us in 2019 after eight years in commercial low-voltage security, and she runs point on every access-control and electrified hardware job from Dulles to Leesburg. She holds certification in HID Prox and iCLASS credential systems, plus door-position switches and electric strike integration with fire-alarm release. Jennifer is the reason our commercial clients in Ashburn get a written scope that specifies cable gauge, strike voltage, and failover behavior before we pull a single wire. She also happens to be the team’s designated snake spotter, after finding a black rat snake coiled inside an outdoor keypad housing near the W&OD Trail. She relocated it. The snake, not the keypad.
Dave R., Service Coordinator
Dave answers the phones. That’s not a small thing at Novak Lock & Security. When you call (571) 410-8874 at 11:47 p.m. because you’re locked out of your house in Brambleton, Dave is the live person who picks up, confirms your location, and quotes your price before anyone dispatches. He’s been doing this since 2017, and he’s trained every coordinator we’ve hired since. Dave maintains the dispatch board, the technician schedules, and the photo-record archive, which means he’s the one who catches it when a documentation photo is missing or a written scope hasn’t been uploaded. He’s also the office’s unofficial meteorologist, and he’ll warn the field crew when a summer thunderstorm is rolling across Loudoun County faster than the radar apps say.
Elena V., Apprentice Technician
Elena started her apprenticeship in early 2024 after leaving a facilities maintenance role at a data center in Sterling. She’s currently completing her ALOA Fundamental Locksmith certification while shadowing Marcus on residential rekeys and Jennifer on basic access-control terminations. Elena has already developed a specialty in vintage lock identification, which matters more than you’d think in Ashburn’s original 1980s subdivisions where homeowners still have Weiser, Corbin Russwin, and other discontinued hardware. Her first solo job was a rekey on a rental property off Farmwell Road, and she produced a complete photo record, written scope, and customer sign-off with zero corrections. She also makes the strongest coffee in the shop, which the rest of the team considers both a skill and a public service.
One Standard, Every Job
The Haven Standard isn’t a suggestion we review at quarterly meetings. It’s a documented framework with numbered clauses that governs every Novak Lock & Security operation, including this Ashburn crew. Clause 1 locks in your price before dispatch. Clause 3 requires the photo record you receive at job completion. Clause 7 mandates background checks and uniforms for anyone wearing our logo. Daniel Novak enforces these personally, and every technician on this page has been written up for documentation lapses at least once. That’s not a confession; it’s the point. The standard only works if it’s applied evenly, whether we’re rekeying a single cylinder in a Broadlands condo or installing a 40-door master-key system at a commercial campus near the Dulles Greenway. We’ve been doing it this way since 2002, across ten Haven brands, and the Ashburn team doesn’t get an exemption for being local. They get held to it because they are.
